Grade 3 Chanukah curriculum is teaching mitzvoth and traditions. In the times of the Greeks, Jews were not allowed to study Torah or keep mitzvot. The Jews ran away to the mountain and lived in caves. There, the children learned Torah and did mitzvot. Every time that the Greeks came to check if they were studying torah, the Jews would hide the books and the children would play with the sivivon (dreidels). Today, on Chanukah, we play with dreidels and that is how we remember what it was in those days and that the dreidels help the Jews win the war against the Greeks. This is why Grade 3 decided to make drediels in order to remember why we played with them in our days. With a creative twist, we put the sivivon in snow globes because we live in this beautiful country filled with snow!
